He has long been the top candidate, but scheduling was challenging because this film’s production included training for those numbers.

The principal role of Wonka has been cast for Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name). In October of last year, he published a first-look photo of himself wearing the recognizable outfit—complete with a top hat and vivid jacket.
He posted a second image of a tiny wrapped gift that appears to be the fabled Willy Wonka cane. Although it’s difficult to tell, the tension is killing us, just like Timothée, based on his caption!
Timothée Chalamet will perform musical numbers in this movie for the first time, with lyrics by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy. Timothée’s most recent performance was as the main character in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune.

Germain Lussier reported from Cinema Con: “Extended trailer for Wonka too. He demonstrates the creation of his unique chocolates despite a bad chocolate cartel’s wishes. Hugh Grant, Willy’s first encounter with an Oompa Loompa, appears at the end. For him, he sings. Looks fun, bright, and joyful.”
Peep Show legend Paterson Joseph also stars as villain Arthur Slugworth, a rival chocolatier to Willy Wonka.
